Passkeys: The easiest, safest way to access your EQ Bank account

When it comes to logging into your bank account, traditional methods like passwords have always been an important security measure. But as threats evolve—with phishing scams, password breaches, and other risks on the rise—there’s a growing need for alternative options to keep your information safe.

That’s why EQ Bank is introducing passkeys: a modern, password-free way to log in that’s faster, easier, and far more secure.

What is a passkey?

A passkey is a modern form of authentication that lets you log in without a password by using your device’s built-in security like facial recognition, fingerprint, or passcode. It’s designed to keep accounts safe while reducing the risks of password theft and phishing.

Passkeys are stored securely on your device and never shared with EQ Bank. They make login faster, easier, and safer than relying on passwords.

Why use passkeys?

Passkeys are the new standard for login protection. They offer:

  • Convenience – No more typing in passwords or waiting for one-time codes. Just login with a glance or a tap.
  • Stronger security – Passkeys remove passwords from the login process, making it harder for scammers to phish or steal your credentials.
  • Peace of mind – Your face, fingerprint, or PIN never leaves your device. EQ Bank never sees or stores your biometric data.

How to set up a passkey with EQ Bank

You can create a passkey directly in the EQ Bank mobile app.

  1. Open the EQ Bank app and log in with your username and password.
  2. Follow the prompt to create a passkey.
    • You’ll be asked to use your face, fingerprint, or device PIN to confirm.
  3. Once set up, the next time you log in you’ll be able to skip the password and sign in instantly, the same way you unlock your phone.

Tip: You can also create a new passkey anytime by going to Settings > Security > Sign-in passkeys in the EQ Bank app.

Using your passkey on other devices

  • If you use iCloud Keychain (Apple) or Google Password Manager (Android), or other password managers, your passkey will sync across your devices that are signed in with the same account.
  • If you’re setting up a brand-new device, you may need to sync your Apple ID or Google Account first to use your passkey.

What if I lose my device?

Even if your phone is lost or stolen, no one can use your passkey to access your EQ Bank account because it’s locked behind your face, fingerprint, or device PIN.

If this happens:

  1. Remove the passkey from your EQ Bank app’s Security settings.
  2. Remove the lost device from iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or any other password manager you use.
  3. As an extra precaution, update your EQ Bank password.

You’ll still be able to log in with your username and password, or from any other synced device.

Managing your passkeys

  • Add more than one passkey: Bank lets you register up to three devices with passkeys.
  • Remove a passkey: You can manage or remove passkeys at any time under Settings > Security > Sign-in passkeys in the EQ Bank app.
  • No expiry: Once created, your passkey doesn’t expire. It works until you remove it.

FAQ

Can I still log in with my username and password?

Yes. You can always use your username and password. For security, you’ll be asked for a one-time passcode (OTP) when logging in this way.

Why am I still being asked for my password?

This could happen if you:

  • Are using EQ Bank’s website (desktop login doesn’t support passkeys yet).
  • Haven’t enrolled for a passkey on your device.
  • Deleted the passkey from your device or it’s not syncing.

What devices support passkeys?

You’ll need:

  • The latest version of the EQ Bank app.
  • iPhone running iOS 16 or later, or Android running version 9 or later.

For iPhone, Passkeys are supported from iOS 16, but iOS 17 improves autofill. Make sure to turn on Password Autofill.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll to Passwords
  3. Tap Password Options
  4. Enable:
    • Autofill Passwords and Passkeys
    • Allow Filling From: select iCloud Keychain
    • (Optional) You can also enable other password managers, if installed.

Should I use a passkey if I share my device?

No. Anyone with a registered face, fingerprint, or PIN on your device could sign in to your EQ Bank account if you create a passkey.
